Switchyard Brewing Won’t Distribute To Kilroy’s After Recess Tweet

Updated Monday Aug. 28 with comment from Mayor John Hamilton.

Officials from Bloomington-based Switchyard Brewing Company say the company will not distribute to any Kilroy’s locations when the company opens in January.

The move comes after Kilroy’s Recess, a new 18 and up club at the old DunKirk location, posted a tweet Friday night about underage girls.

The tweet, addressed to Indiana University alum Mark Cuban, read “come check out your old place! Spoiler: We got rid of the wet t-shirt contests, but kept the underage girls.”

In a video posted on the Switchyard Facebook and Twitter accounts, an official says Kilroy’s demonstrates a “complete lack of respect for women and girls.”

Kilroy’s tweet was later removed and the organization issued an apology saying the joke was made in bad taste.

“We take the safety of our customers very seriously and work extremely hard to provide a conducive environment to do so,” the organization said in a statement.

By early afternoon Sunday, the @KilroysRecess Twitter account had been switched to private, with only confirmed followers able to see the account’s tweets.

Mark Cuban did not respond to the tweet.

Mayor John Hamilton (D-Bloomington) said in a statement Monday he would be “engaging with the creators of these messages to encourage more responsible behavior in the future.”
