State On Track To Meet I-69 Section 5 August Deadline

Once Section 5 is complete, there will be a two-year gap before Section 6 construction starts.

The state says it’s still on track to complete Section 5 of Interstate 69 by August.

A private developer was supposed to finish the section of I-69 that runs from Bloomington to Martinsville nearly two years ago. After a pay dispute and multiple delays, the state decided to take the project over last summer.

Crews are working two shifts to meet their completion deadline of August 2018.

Indiana Department of Transportation Public Relations Manager Andy Dietrick says work will ramp up even more in the coming weeks.

“Because the weather has held and there seems to be a window there,” Dietrick says. “I think folks can anticipate a pretty major traffic shift coming up within the next week or two. Again, that’s going to be weather dependent and asphalt dependent.”

Dietrick says traffic will shift to a single northbound lane once that happens.
