Shelli Yoder Announces She’s Running For Congress Again

Shelli Yoder was running against incumbent Todd Young for the U.S. 9th District Congressional seat.

Democrat and Monroe County Council Member Shelli Yoder announced Monday she’ll make another run for Indiana’s 9th District Congressional seat.

Yoder won the Democratic nomination in 2012, but lost to Rep. Todd Young, R-Ind. District 9, who is now vacating the seat to run for U.S. Senate.

Yoder is the first Democrat to announce candidacy for the seat. If she clinches the Democratic nomination again, she would face one of several Republican candidates in the 2016 general election.

In a statement, Yoder said she puts “common sense over partisan ideology.”

“I believe good government and a strong private sector can work together without leaving hard-working Hoosier families behind, and I have a proven track record of working across the aisle to solve tough problems as a public servant,” she said.
