Shelbyville Holds National Guard Deployment Ceremony

Col. Brian Copes is the commander of the Indiana National Guard 119th Agribusiness Development Team in Khost Province, Afghanistan.

The Indiana National Guard held a departure ceremony for soldiers in Shelbyville. The company is being deployed to Kuwait.

Flight Medic Staff Sgt. Scott Darrall says the unit is basically the “Army‘s version of 911”, which means they are on call to be ready to take soldiers to a higher facility of care.

Lt. Terry Specyal says this is their second deployment but this will be different since many of the members have not been deployed. He says this is his first deployment as a helicopter pilot and he added he‘s excited to fly overseas and get that experience.
