A poll taken among likely voters in Indiana’s 9th Congressional District suggests support for House Resolution 1108, a bill that would allow the Food and Drug Administration to regulate tobacco products.
Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids organizer Tim Filler says 71% of those polled support Congress passing a bill that gives the FDA regulation over tobacco. One concern voiced by U.S. 9th District Representative Baron Hill has been the possible impact on tobacco farmers in southern Indiana. Filler says 73 percent of the responders felt that public health outweighed any impact on farmers.
Three-hundred likely voters were surveyed in the poll. A spokesperson for Hill says he’ll wait to see the final version of the bill before choosing whether or not to support it.
