Bloomington police arrested John F. Bryant of Bloomington Monday on suspicion of murder after officers were called to his home to determine if his girlfriend, who had been reported missing two days prior, was at the residence.
According to a news release from the Bloomington Police Department, officers entered 59-year-old Bryant's apartment, on the 700 block of East Alpine Trail, after he refused entry to a friend of the missing woman. There, police found a woman's body on the living room floor. The victim had multiple stab wounds on her back and was covered in blankets.
BPD says it is believed that the victim had been deceased for several days. Her name has not been released.
The news release says the 50-year-old woman had been reported missing by her son May 16 after she left their shared residence to go see her boyfriend, who was later identified as Bryant.
Police arrested Bryant at his apartment and he is now being held at the Monroe County Jail with a preliminary murder charge.
