Paoli Community School Corporation Hires Consultant To Craft Budget

Gerald Jackson continues to serve as interim superintendent as the district searches for someone to fill the position (Barbara Brosher, WFIU/WTIU News).

The Paoli school board hired a consultant this week to prepare the school corporation’s budget for the upcoming school year.

The board says it’s necessary after plans for a new superintendent to start last month fell through. Jon Bennett was supposed to take over as superintendent of Paoli Community Schools June 1, but that didn’t happen. The school board couldn’t provide details because it’s a personnel issue, but re-advertised the position this week.

Interim Superintendent Gerald Jackson will stay on with the corporation until the board finds a replacement. He says Kenny Kidd will serve as a consultant and put together the budget.

“The reason I’m having him do this is because they had all these workshops this winter on how to redo this, help me do this budget,” Jackson says. “Well I never went to any of them. And guess why? Because I didn’t think I was going to be here.”

Jackson says the district will pay Kidd $75 per hour to prepare the budget. He doesn’t expect the total cost to exceed $3,000.

As for the superintendent search, Jackson says the board’s already received three applications for the position. The deadline for submissions is July 15.
