MCCSC Replaces Fixtures With High Lead Levels

(WFIU/WTIU News file)

Officials with the Monroe County Community School District say all the water fixtures that recently tested high for lead have been fixed or are no longer being used.

The district estimates 90 percent have already been replaced.

The Indiana Finance Authority recently collected water samples from 915 school buildings to identify fixtures with lead levels exceeding the Environmental Protection Agency's action level of 15 parts per billion.

Nine MCCSC schools had fixtures with lead levels above that number.

MCCSC says the fixtures that haven’t been replaced yet – will be soon. They’re waiting on parts to arrive and in the meantime the fixtures are not being used.
