Bloomington’s annual Lotus World Music and Arts Festival kicks off Thursday night with a concert at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater featuring artists from Denmark and Finland.
The festival is in its 22nd year and continues to expand.
This year will be the first to have a food truck village located on the south side of the square. Organizers are also bringing back the popular festival parade Saturday night featuring a 14-piece Algerian brass band.
Lotus Foundation Executive Director Sunni Fass says she is excited the weekend-long festival will feature more than 25 musical acts from across the globe.
“Our focus on bringing the world here gives people an opportunity to be up close and person with not just traditions and musical art forms and great performances from around the world, but people from around the world,” Fass says.
The festival continues until Sunday night. Locals should expect closed streets and detours near downtown.
