IU-OSU Game Breaks ESPN Thursday Kickoff Weekend Ratings Record

A touchdown for Indiana in the season-opening game against Ohio State.

Thursday night’s game between Indiana University and Ohio State University brought ESPN better overnight ratings than any previous kickoff weekend Thursday game.

ESPN brought the popular show College GameDay to Memorial Stadium in Bloomington for the first time in IU football history, and broadcast the game to a national TV audience.

A statement from Indiana University Athletics says the game had a streaming audience of 201,000 viewers in the average minute.

Close to 1.4 million people streamed at least a portion of the game. The streaming audience is in the top three regular-season audience records ever for ESPN.

The Hoosiers led the game at the start of the second half with a one-point lead. The Buckeyes answered with four touchdowns, shutting out IU the last twenty minutes of the game.

The Hoosiers face the Virginia Cavaliers next Saturday at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m.
