IU Student Shot And Killed In Marion

An Indiana University journalism student was shot and killed in his hometown of Marion, Indiana early Saturday morning following an argument at a bar. 22-year-old James Mack was shot in the chest and legs and died at Marion General Hospital. His friend, Justin Riddle, also 22, was shot five times in the hand, arm, chest and abdomen, and is in critical condition at Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne.

Marion Police Captain Kay Jay says witnesses at the Icehouse Restaurant saw the shooter, a Marion man named Dennis Roberson, fleeing out of the rear door. Roberson was later convinced to turn himself in by his wife, who was working at the bar at the time of the shooting. Kay says there was a verbal argument between Roberson and his victims.

Kay says Roberson left the bar, probably to retrieve his weapon, and returned shortly afterward. Roberson allegedly shot Mack and Riddle following another verbal altercation. Kay says there is no indication Roberson knew either Mack or Riddle prior the incident. Roberson is charged with murder and attempted murder and is being held at the Green County jail without a bond.
