IU's GLBT Alumni Association received a $500,000 donation for its academic and emergency scholarship funds.

An alumni group at Indiana University is raising money to sponsor a very specific scholarship at the school.

As the Herald-Times reports the IU Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Alumni Association launched its national campaign to raise funds for their academic and emergency scholarship programs.

The IU Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Alumni Association this week launched the nation’s first scholarship campaign devoted specifically to assisting GLBT students, kick-started by a promise of $500,000 matching grant from an anonymous donor.

The emergency fund provides scholarship money for IU students whose family members have stopped funding their education due to their sexual orientation. The group has sponsored the scholarships since 2005.
