The Indiana University football team kicks off its season Thursday against Indiana State University, and IU’s athletic director is hoping to pack Memorial Stadium.
The Hoosiers finished last season with a 4-8 record in coach Kevin Wilson’s second year.
IU Athletic Director Fred Glass says there’s a lot of enthusiasm going into this year and more than 30,000 season tickets have been sold and he is expecting more than 40,000 for Thursday evening’s game.
“I believe that Kevin has built it the right way, with the right kids,” he says. “It’s encouraging to see people excited about what comes next. But I get that we have to go out and prove it on the field. I’m confident we will.”
Game attendance has averaged around 40,000 the past couple seasons. Memorial Stadium can hold more than 52,000 fans.
