IU Baseball Field To Be Named After Donor Bart Kaufman

Indiana University's new baseball field will be called Bart Kaufman Field.

Indiana University announced Wednesday it will name its new baseball facility Bart Kaufman Field after a $2.5 million donation by the former IU baseball player. The total cost of the baseball and softball fields is $19.8 million. The university has not broken down the cost for each of the individual fields, which will be funded by private donations and the IU athletic department.

“My father was contributing money to IU Athletics in the ’40s, and it seemed natural for me after I graduated from the IU Bloomington law school to make gifts of my own,” Kaufman said in a statement released Wednesday.

IU President Michael A. McRobbie said the new field “promises to strengthen our baseball program as it seeks to build upon strong recent performances.”

Kaufman earned consecutive All Big Ten honors in 1961 and 1962. He is the chairman and CEO of Kaufman Financial Corporation and a long-time supporter of the IU Varsity Club.

Construction on the fields is set to begin this spring and should be completed by the start of the 2013 season.
