John Gregg Calls For Resignation Of DCS Director

The Department of Child Services says it will assess its pilot program before a possible expansion next spring.

Democratic gubernatorial candidate John Gregg is renewing his call for the head of the Department of Child Services to step down amid a report that says DCS Director James Payne became involved in a case that affected his family.

Gregg is responding to an Indianapolis Star report that shows Payne was immersed in a case involving his grandchildren. The children were taken away from their mother and given to Payne during a custody battle with his son.

The report also shows that Payne took state assistance while he had temporary custody, despite his $130,000 salary.
