INDOT Trying To Control Runoff From I-69 Construction

INDOT was cited for failing to control runoff from certain areas where I-69 is under construction.

INDOT has until the end of the month to comply with a violation letter from the Indiana Department of Environmental Management regarding water runoff from Interstate 69 construction.

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management or IDEM issued a violation letter to INDOT and one of its contractors, Fred Weber Inc. In the letter, INDOT received an “Unsatisfactory” rating on six of seven categories under erosion and sediment control.

IDEM spokesperson, Barry Sneed, says since the letter was issued in December, INDOT has made strides to comply.

“We’ve already been out there once from the time that the violation letter was sent until now and they had already corrected several things so it looks like they’re already making progress on it so we’ll do a follow-up just to make sure everything is taken care of.”

Reading from a prepared statement, INDOT spokesperson Cher Elliot, says the agency plans to address the remaining discrepancies soon.

“Most of the items discussed in the violation letter have been taken care of and there are plans to address the balance.”

IDEM will follow-up at the end of the month and plans to continue monitoring construction of I-69.
