Indiana Mom Joins Mayor Bloomberg In Fight Against NRA

Michael Bloomberg plans to spend $50 million this year to push for additional gun regulations.

A group co-founded by an Indiana mom is joining former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg to lobby for additional gun control measures.

Bloomberg, Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America are forming a group called Everytown for Gun Safety.

Bloomberg plans to donate $50 million to the campaign to help combat interest groups like the National Rifle Association, which has a $250 million annual budget.

Shannon Watts founded Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America and says she will finally be able to go toe to toe with Washington lobbyist.

”We are going to do that by educating, and reaching out to moms and American’s person to person, that’s what grassroots is all about,” Watts said on a conference call Wednesday.

John Feinblatt, president of Everytown for Gun Safety and Bloomberg’s policy advisor says the organization will continue to fight for gun policy in Washington while also bringing the issue to the state and corporate levels.

“We are going to mobilize every mom and every mayor and every teacher to take the pledge to support candidates and support laws that protect Americans,” he says.

Indiana is among 15 states Everytown is targeting for tougher gun control policies.

Calls to the NRA for comment were not returned.
