Iconic Terre Haute Theater Reopens As Event Center

The historic Indiana Theater in Terre Haute recently underwent 6 months of renovations.

A historic venue in Terre Haute reopens Friday after six months of renovations.

The early twentieth century architect John Eberson designed the Indiana Theater Event Center in seventeenth century Spanish baroque style. It  opened in 1922.

Vigo County Historical Society Executive Director Marylee Hagan says though the ownership has changed hands many times since then, it’s largely remained a functional theater.

“It’s so important that we preserve those parts of our past,” she says. “ In the public eye, we lose too much and this theater is certainly a wonderful example of its time and I think the reuse is just marvelous.”

Hagan says the historical society is thrilled current owner of the theater, Rob Lundstrom, is restoring the building.

“He’s done a great gift to the community by taking this on because it’s a huge undertaking,” she says.

The theater now operates as a full-service catering and event center.
