Families, State Leaders Praise Indiana Troops Before Deployment

Several hundred people gathered Tuesday night at the Kokomo event center to celebrate around 250 National Guard soldiers from Indiana who are deploying to Kuwait.

The members of the 38th Sustainment Brigade will help support U.S. Central Command efforts in Southwest Asia.

Major General Courtney P. Carr encouraged the soldiers to never give up on that goal.

“Your training has prepared you for the challenges ahead,” Carr says. “You can be confident in what you’ve learned. Take care of the women to your left and right and focus on the mission at hand.”

Gov. Eric Holcomb praised the troops for their service to Indiana and the country. He says it’s important to remember the families who are sacrificing as well.

“I know when the uniformed member takes that call, answers that call, gets the orders, puts on the uniform, gets packed and deploys, it’s the loved ones who are serving and sacrificing just as much,” Holcomb says.

The unit will make a stop at Fort Hood in Texas for post-mobilization training before deploying overseas.
