260 people will lose their jobs when a Greenwood phone bank closes later this year. TeleServices Direct is a telemarketing company that’s operated in Greenwood since 1989. Chief Administrative Officer Steve Lair says the branch is closing due to a cut in marketing budgets.
“We needed to reduce our overhead and tighten our belt a little bit like a lot of companies are doing these days. We made a difficult decision to go ahead and close one location.”
There about 110 full-time and 150 part-time employees at the Greenwood office. Lair says he has had many calls from businesses looking for potential employees and he’s hopeful his company can help some of its workers find new jobs.
“We’re going to have some job fairs and work with the [the Indiana Department of]Workforce Development and we’re going to be working over the next couple of months to try and help people get placed in new positions,” he said. “I think most of them will be successful in finding new jobs.”
TeleServices Direct is scheduled to shutter its Greenwood operation on December 4.
