Honda is beginning to build Acuras at its Greensburg plant, which is now up to full production after the recession diminished its workload.
Honda Manufacturing of Indiana will soon begin producing an Acura luxury sedan at its Greensburg plant. Production on the Acura ILX will begin in the spring, but spokesperson Anita Sipes says the new production is not expected to create any jobs.
“Right now we‘re going to be able to build the Acura ILX with our existing workforce and our existing capacity here at the plant,” Spies says.
About 1,000 jobs were recently added at the plant, doubling the size of the workforce. Sipes says the car will be made in a gas model as well as a hybrid model. The ILX will become the fifth Acura model to be made only in North America. The plant makes about 200,000 vehicles per year.
