GOP Candidate Houchin Defeats Incumbent for State Senate

Republican candidate Erin Houchin has defeated Democratic incumbent Richard Young, D-Milltown, in the race for the District 47 State Senate seat.

District 47 encompasses parts of Johnson and Morgan counties in central Indiana.

Houchin is the southeast Indiana Regional Director for United States Senator Dan Coats. She began her career as a legislative aide in the Indiana House of Representatives and in the executive office of the State Auditor.

She is a Governor’s appointee to the Indiana Commission for Women. Houchin received her Master’s degree in political management from The George Washington University.
