Fresh Thyme Farmer’s Market says it will open its second Bloomington location in the store previously slated for Whole Foods 365 at College Mall.
The announcement comes after months of speculation about whether Whole Foods would follow through with its plans to open a store in Bloomington. That was originally supposed to happen in August.
Simon Property Group demolished Sears to make way for a 59,000-square foot addition to College Mall, with Whole Foods 365 serving as one of the largest new additions. But, the store remained empty, while other stores included in the expansion opened earlier this year.
Fresh Thyme says it plans to open its second location in that building sometime this year.
“We’ve received final approvals and are looking forward to opening our second Bloomington location and continuing to bring Fresh Thyme’s mission to serve our customers like family and to offer healthy food at really great prices to the area,” Justin Haasch, Fresh Thyme’s Director of Real Estate and Market Research, says in a statement.
Fresh Thyme opened its first Bloomington store on the west side last year.
