Thousands of homeless residents in Central Indiana are benefiting from a first of its kind, full-service health center.
Horizon House and Eskenazi Health are opening today the Eskenazi Health Pedigo at Horizon House Health Center on the city’s east side.
Horizon House Executive Director Teresa Wessel says they’ve renovated the west side of their current Washington Street building. Wessel says the new facility combines mental health and primary care services for more than 3,000 people. Wessel says services are more holistic and free of charge.
The center operates with a $1.2 million budget and around two dozen Eskenazi doctors and nurses staffing the center. Wessel says they raise money through the United Way and private donations.
Wessel adds the center helps address the plight of the homeless. Wessel says many homeless residents simply need services offered by the center to help get them back on their feet.
