ACOs are a network of doctors and hospitals that come together to help streamline patient care

Federal Medicare Director Jonathan Blum is in Indianapolis Today to discuss new “accountable care organizations,” being created by federal regulations. Blum will meet with executives from area hospital systems, medical groups, health insurance companies and major employers in the medical industry as the government begins to establish the organizations.  The ACOs are a network of doctors and hospitals that come together to help streamline patient care across multiple platforms – from primary care physicians to specialists to hospitals to long-term or home health care.  The intention is to improve care while lowering costs.  Regulations were released by the federal government in March, and Blum is now coming to Indianapolis to hear feedback from industry leaders on how the process is moving along.
