Heat Not Affecting Fair Attendance

Attendees of the Monroe County Fair appear not to mind the high heat of the last week, if gate receipts are any indication.

Delbert Hayes, a Green County resident, attended the fair and doesn’t believe the weather will keep people home.

“We all come out, I mean, it’s a home family tradition. The heat ain’t going to stop no body from coming out,” Hayes said.

In fact, Public Relations Officer for the fair Dave Smith says attendance is comparable to past years.

“They’ve been coming out believe it or not. They’ve got their fans and they’re walking around, you know, because it is the county fair and everyone comes out. I think the heat would never deter them from coming,” Smith said.

Hayes says people at the fair will find ways to get out of the heat and stay cool. “Gatorade, water, ice cream cones.”

No relief is in sight. The National Weather Service reports the heat index rating to be in the upper 90s on Wednesday.
