Monroe County confirmed 344 new COVID-19 cases Friday, down from 383 on Thursday. In total, 23,478 people in the county have tested positive since the pandemic began.
The county also recorded two new deaths, bringing the pandemic total to 249. The new deaths occurred in the last week.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown, and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations are at 169, up from 165 on Thursday. This is a new district record, passing the previous high of 167 in December 2020.
About 46 percent of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients as of Friday, and only 9 percent are available.
The county’s positivity rate remained at 21.3 percent.
State
The state confirmed 17,684 new positive cases Friday, up from 16,539 on Thursday.
In total, 1,524,527 Hoosiers have tested positive for the virus since the pandemic began.
The state also reported 95 new deaths, which occurred between Aug. 13 and Jan. 20. This brings the state total to 19,992.
The state’s seven-day positivity rate is now 30.4 percent, up from 30.1 percent Thursday.
Currently 3,384 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in Indiana, down from 3,506 Thursday. About 33 percent of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients.
For the week of Jan. 3, 85.4 percent of COVID-19 cases were the Omicron variant.
