DePauw Tigers Defend National Title In NCAA Tourney

DePauw Tigers

The defending national champion DePauw Tigers open the NCAA division III basketball tournament in Greencastle Friday night. The Tigers are appearing in their 11th straight NCAA postseason after winning the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament title this past weekend.

Greencastle Mayor Sue Murray says much of their success can be attributed to head coach Kris Huffman.

“[She] brings a joy for our whole community to get involved with to watch her young women play and the success they’ve had I think we all feel,” Murray says.

The Tigers are 27 and 1, their lone loss a one point defeat to Ohio Wesleyan in February.

DePauw Athletics spokesperson Bill Wagner credits the team’s community involvement for the Greencastle fan support.

“It’s a testament to the connections that our coach has established in the community and our players get out in the community and our involved in various community projects,” Wagner says.

The Tigers host the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 7:30 p.m. Friday.
