Bloomington is reporting fourteen new COVID-19 cases among its employees since its update last week on Dec. 30.
Here’s a breakdown of where the cases came from:
Parks and Recreation Department: 2
Bloomington Police: 1
Bloomington Utilities: 2
City Hall: 2
Fire Department: 3
Bloomington Housing Authority: 2
Public Works: 2
These cases bring the city to 174 since the pandemic began. Last week, the city reported eight cases.
This week’s update surpasses the high of twelve cases reported Dec. 10.
A release from the city said no cases reported this week were linked to any previous employee cases. The release also said none of these employees exposed any members of the public while they were working.
Monroe County
Monroe County confirmed 163 new COVID-19 cases Thursday, up from 297 Wednesday. This brings its total since the pandemic began to 19,185.
Two new deaths were reported, bringing the county total to 234.
The county’s positivity rate rose to 18.9 percent, up from 17.2 percent Tuesday.
In District 8, which includes Monroe, Brown and Bartholomew counties, hospitalizations increased to 144, up from 141 Wednesday. About 45 percent of the district’s 73 ICU beds are occupied by COVID patients, with about 10 percent still available.
