Two Children Hit By School Bus In Bartholomew County

A school bus hit two children in Bartholomew County this morning.

Two children are hospitalized after they were hit by a school bus this morning in Bartholomew County. Investigators said a 9-year-old girl and a 6-year-old boy were waiting at their bus stop in their neighborhood at the time.

Major Todd Noblitt of the Bartholomew County Sheriff‘s Department, says the girl was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis and the boy is at Columbus Regional Hospital.

The Columbus Republic is reporting more information from Noblitt:

The accident happened about 7:40 a.m. today at the corner of Chaucer and Buckingham drives, which has a four-way stop, and involved bus No. 269, Noblitt said.

The sheriff’s department is leading the investigation and an Indiana State Police accident reconstructionist is on the scene.

Noblitt said preliminary information indicates that the children may have run out into the street in front of the bus.

The accident is under investigation and the Indiana State Police are conducting an inspection of the school bus.
