Body camera footage shows two deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department fired at least a dozen shots while attempting to serve a drug warrant for an armed man who later died from his injuries.
The department released the footage Monday after 24-year-old Daniel Boyer’s family had a chance to watch it privately.
In a press conference following the shooting, Sheriff Brad Swain said Boyer exited the back of the trailer on West Tower Road, raised a semi-automatic handgun and shouted at police before they opened fire.
But in the footage it’s hard to see what Boyer did before police started shooting.

Teague was Moxley’s field training officer the day of the shooting.
Teague’s body camera footage starts with him staked out behind a tree in a wooded area near the trailer. At about 36 seconds into the video, he starts running toward the trailer and yelling “Stop, sheriff’s office. Stop right now.”
A few seconds later, he begins shooting rapidly. The position of Teague’s gun obstructs much of the view from his body camera, but at one point Boyer falls to the ground, gets back up, and attempts to run toward the trailer.
Moxley’s body camera footage shows him starting to fire shots shortly after Teague does.
Once Boyer is on the ground and stops moving, Teague calls for an ambulance. He and Moxley both instruct Boyer to put his hands up, but he doesn’t move.
Moxley moves in to cuff Boyer, while another officer unloads what appears to be Boyer’s handgun.
As officers figure out how to move Boyer closer to the road for the arriving ambulance, they instruct him to stay awake.
“Hey man I know you’re screwed up, but just stay with us, okay,” Teague says.
He then carries Boyer through the woods to the road. Other officers can be heard over a PA system instructing anyone else in the trailer to come out with their hands up.
Swain previously said CPR was performed at the scene before Boyer was transported to IU Health Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Monroe County’s coroner says gunshots hit Boyer four times – once in the index finger, twice in his left thigh, and a superficial wound to his lower back.
Teague and Moxley recently returned to work after the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office decided not to take criminal action against them.
