Bloomington hospital is now called IU Health Bloomington Hospital. The name change shows Indiana University’s new affiliation with the hospital. CEO Mark Moore says the alliance will have a positive effect on health care by assuring patients receive the same care regardless of the hospital’s regional location.
“The great news here is that by having Bloomington Hospital become part of Indiana University Health, we really take a preeminent region of care and make it part of a statewide system of care, one that can assure the same standard of care whether you come into our hospitals in Paoli, Bedford or Bloomington, so assurance is a key word.”
Moore says patients will have more options because they’ll be able to receive the same level of care in Bloomington as they would in a larger city like Indianapolis for example.
“The goal here is to keep patients as local as possible, to increase their options, and to actually enhance the offerings of care in this region.”
There are 19 hospitals across the state that are being affected by the name change. According to Moore, there are currently no plans to lay off any employees, but Moore does say the hospital will have to continue to evaluate what is most cost effective.
