Alchemy aims to provide a "classy" atmosphere for the non-student population of Bloomington.

You can expect to hear Frank Sinatra and Ella Fitzgerald when you wander into Bloomington’s newest bar Alchemy, set to open this month in the historic Princess Theater building near the square on N. Walnut.

Owner Logan Hunter says he wants to provide an experience unlike any other bar in the city, targeting the non-student population with an “NYC meets London” feel.

Hunter says the bar will serve classic, old-school cocktails like a Manhattan and old fashioned. “Think pre-prohibition,” he says.

Alchemy will also serve a full menu until 1 a.m. Hunter says the menu will include southern, Italian and Mediterranean food, with hand-made pasta crafted in-house every day.

Hunter says it’s fitting that Alchemy ended up in an older theater, since he took a lot of inspiration for the bar from his time in New York City working in film and musical theater.

He says the layout is set up so that the bar acts like a stage and customers can see the action from any seat in the house. He’s even laid out a red carpet at the entrance.

Alchemy is set to open on Tuesday, March 20 at 4 p.m.

Location: 206 N. Walnut

Hours: 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. every day
