Indiana University Bloomington is welcoming students back for the upcoming school year this week. Students began arriving to their residence halls over the weekend.

This year, IU scheduled two move-in days, on Tuesday and Wednesday, rather than just one day in an effort to relieve traffic congestion.

Welcome Week events, including CultureFest and the Freshman Induction Ceremony, will begin Wednesday and continue throughout the week.

Incoming freshman Paxton Laubscher says she’s excited to begin her first semester.

“Classes might be a little scary on Monday, but we’re going to get it,” Laubscher says.

While students are looking forward to the school year, some parents are not having an easy time heading home.

Bridget Cron moved her son into his residence hall Tuesday.

“He’s got to go sometime,” Cron says. “I don’t know that I’m ready, but he’s got to go sometime.”

According to a press release from the university, this year’s freshman class is the largest ever and includes students from 44 states and all 92 Indiana counties.

Bloomington and university officials have issued warnings for heavy traffic during move-in, and drivers may notice changes to regular traffic patterns in and around campus.
