Indiana Basketball Wins Big Against Bryant

After going through a week of adversity with the NCAA suspension of freshmen Hanner Mosquera-Perea and Peter Jurkin, the number one ranked Indiana Hoosiers manhandled the Bryant Bulldogs on Friday in the home opener in Bloomington 97-54.

Freshmen Yogi Ferrell and Jeremy Hollowell stepped up big for the Hoosiers, both scoring double digits for Indiana.

Ferrell was the key to bolstering the offense against Bryant. He tallied 7 assists in the game while also adding 5 rebounds and 10 points. Jeremy Hollowell was also a contributor with 12 points and 3 rebounds.

"It felt great distributing the ball to these guys and watching them score, it was just great," Ferrell said after the game.

The freshmen were not the only players to come up big in the game. Six players scored in double digits and two players had double-doubles. Sophomore Cody Zeller had 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Christian Watford scored 15 points and pulled down a career high 15 rebounds.

Watford wore number 32 in the contest in honor of injured senior teammate Derek Elston, who is out due to a torn meniscus.

"I just wanted to wear his number cause he's out right now, and I just really wanted to bring him out on the court," Watford said.

Indiana looked strong on the offensive end despite 18 turnovers, but Ferrellsaid he thought the team looked a little shaky in transition defense, something they need to improve in the future. Coach Crean agreed there are still many places in which the team needs to improve, but it was a good start.

Crean says his team is learning and growing.

"It's one thing to win, and it's another thing to improve while we're winning," he says.

With their first regular season game of the year out of the way, the Hoosiers hope to keep their momentum moving into next week's game against North Dakota State.
