Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett

Terre Haute has lost a fourth of its budget to property tax caps. Now, money which might have gone back to local governments is going back to taxpayers.

Mayor Bennett says a $100 refund to taxpayers from the state’s surplus may make it harder for municipal governments to avoid raising taxes or creating user fees — especially those with budget gaps such as his city.  Bennett says the city has eliminated more than 20 positions through attrition during his tenure in office and could soon begin discussion of a waste cleanup fee to help offset the $2 million the city spends every year on waste pickup.

Please ask Mayor Kruzan why oh why Bloomington is being strangled by construction? I understand it has to happen, but this summer has made me hate Bloomington: every major artery has been stopped or obstructed and I can’t imagine this hasn’t cause accidents, as well as massive frustration. I know that it will effect my voting in the next election.
