Santiago de Murcia with Paul O’Dette and Rolf Lislevand

Jácaras!

Santiago de Murcia was one of the Spanish baroque’s more significant composers for the baroque guitar. Paul Odette’s 1998 Harmonia Mundi release of selections from Murcia’s pieces is as fine a recording as you might find. O’Dette is joined by colleagues who reinforce the natural flair and style inherent in the music.

Codex

As contrast to O’Dette’s recording, Rolf Lislevand’s Astree release of music by Murcia is perhaps a little more hip in approach. Some of the pieces are mixed in with improvisations that give a cross-over feel, while retaining the baroque essence of the original.
