- Dmitri Shostakovich arranged Vincent Youman's famous "Tea For Two" for orchestra in only 45 minutes, after a conductor bet him he couldn't!
- Philip Glass's Music In Fifths was written using all parallel fifths, an intentional, tongue-in-cheek rebuke of the counterpoint lessons from his teacher Nadia Boulanger!
- King Henry VIII was also a composer, and in his song "Though Some Sayeth That Youth Ruleth Me," he wrote his own name into the lyrics: "thus sayeth the King, the eighth Harry."
