Gershwin: I Got Plenty O’ Nuttin'

Jazz musicians in the early 20th century often turned to the popular tunes of Broadway and created their own arrangements of these songs to showcase their talents. One of the great arrangers of such tunes was "Satchmo" himself, Louis Armstrong. In 1959, he collaborated with Ella Fitzgerald on a recording of selections from Porgy and Bess, the classic opera of George Gershwin and his brother and lyricist, Ira. The album is now considered the most successful jazz version of the opera, and was even inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001 as a recording of "qualitative and historical significance." Armstrong and Fitzgerald's Porgy and Bess features the most popular tunes from the opera, including this selection, "I Got Plenty O' Nuttin'"
