Praetorius: Es ist ein Rose Entsprungen

The melody for Lo, How A Rose Ere Blooming may have existed as early as 1500, but is most well known from a setting by Michael Praetorius that was done around 1609. The song told the story of THE CHRISTMAS ROSE, which supposedly first blossomed the night Christ was born. According to legend, a poor child named Miriam and her brother sought out the stable where Jesus lay, but had no gifts for him. Brokenhearted, Miriam began to weep, and where her tears hit the ground, beautiful roses grew. She picked them, and they became her gift to the Christ Child. It=s easy to see why this charming tale of THE CHRISTMAS ROSE became one of the Christmas season=s most touching legends!
