Autumn Harvest

As we kick off the first day of fall this week, Ether Game is celebrating by jumping into a big pile of leaves with a show called "Autumn Harvest"!

Did you know...

  • Antonio Vivaldi's Four Seasons, thought to be one of the first pieces of "programmatic music," has a sonnet accompanying each season, written by the composer himself!
  • The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires by Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla was originally written as four separate works for tango ensemble, but then later arranged into an orchestral suite by Leonid Desyatnikov to more closely resemble Vivaldi's work. Of course, Buenos Aires is in the southern hemisphere, so the seasons are reversed!
  • Edvard Grieg's concert overture In Autumn was called "trash" by his teacher Niels Gade. But when he rearranged it for piano duet, and entered it into a competition where Gade was a judge, it was awarded first prize.
