Slaughterhouse Dangers, Homemade Root Beer, Roasted Veggies

john allen flynn at the farmers' market

I have numerous sassafras trees on my property, and I sell it to people and they make tea out of it. Some people will try to make root beer out of it.

One of John Allen Flynn's customers is a local chef who has perfected a root beer recipe. Jackie Howard will walk us through it.

American consumers enjoy a vast supply of affordable beef, pork, and poultry, but the workers who help that meat reach our tables sometimes pay a price. We'll hear part one of a series by Harvest Public Media called "Dangerous Jobs: Cheap Meat."

Then, while the oven is on for roasting tomatillos, we roast some other seasonal veggies to serve with eggs for breakfast.

And, some farmers have opened up their land to hunters who are looking to bag some snow geese. The birds are wreaking havoc on vegetation in parts of Canada.
