The Centers for Disease Control announced early this month that a listeria outbreak spurred a frozen food company to recall 358 products.

Investigators say the source is likely CRF Frozen Foods, where damaged equipment could have allowed the bacteria to contaminate products.

The initial recall covered only 15 brands, but that number has expanded to 42.

Affected products include those sold at Trader Joe's, Panda Express, Signature Kitchens and Earth's Pride.

Listeria bacteria, which can grow at refrigerator temperatures, causes fever, stomach ached and diarrhea.

In rare cases it can be fatal. Two people have died and 8 people hospitalized since the outbreak began in 2013 across three states – Washington, California and Maryland.

Meanwhile, an unrelated recall of sunflower seeds from snack maker SunOpta has also expanded due to listeria fears. The company first recalled products made from February 1 to 19 this year, but has expanded the end date to April 21.

Concerns about listeria have also cropped up in the U.K., where Costco expanded a recall last week to include a brand of veggie burgers and a frozen vegetable mix.
