Getting into Character with Cosplay

March 8, 2019

There’s a new Marvel movie out today, which implies a couple things: your social media becoming a spoiler minefield, a wealth of fan theories with minimal grounding in reality, and new characters with designs so cool they’ll make you ask, Do I need my own red and blue flight suit with a Hala Star on the chest?

You’re kind of on your own for those first two (I don’t know, maybe stay off Twitter a bit? Seems like the healthiest option.), but we might be able to help out with that last one. If you’re ready to get more tactile with the larger-than-life heroes and villains from your movies and comics, cosplay may be your best route.

We asked local cosplayer Kayce Schulte, also known as SuperKayce, to give us a crash course in cosplay. Schulte’s been an avid member of the Indiana cosplay community for the past 10 years. She got her start throwing together a Supergirl costume for the Superman Celebration in Metropolis, IL. Now, she’s used her skill and love of cosplay to raise over $10,000 for pancreatic cancer research with her yearly team-up SuperMage, a collaboration with fellow cosplayer Knightmage.

SuperKayce even showed us how to do a bit of cosplay ourselves. You can find that tutorial here.
