Mother Hubbard's Cupboard tends more than ten thousand square feet of garden space, offering opportunities for young people to learn how to garden and prepare fresh, organic fruits and vegetables.

Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard exists to provide healthful, wholesome food to people in need, as well as nutrition and gardening education. They strive to provide services in ways that enhance the dignity, respect, and self-care of everyone involved.
Their pantry operates under the patron-choice model, which means that patrons get to choose what food best fits their needs. The Cupboard also operates on the honor system: they do not require identification or proof of need, trusting that anyone coming to the pantry for food is having trouble making ends meet.
In addition to distributing food to 2,000 people each week, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard also offers nutrition classes and operates three community gardens.
They tend the Crestmont Community Gardens, the Banneker Green Thumbs Youth Garden, and the southern portion of the Ernie D. Butler Park Community Gardens. (All sites are gardened in partnership with the City of Bloomington Parks and Recreation.)
In addition to providing organic fruits and vegetables to patrons, Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard also partners with local youth agencies to provide gardening and nutrition classes for children.
