Afterglow Jazz and American Popular Song

Recent Releases for 2015, Part 2

A roundup of recent releases in the world of vocal jazz and traditional pop from the second half of 2015

Tony Bennett, age 89, just released a brand new record of all Jerome Kern songs, featuring pianist Bill Charlap.

On this program, we’re taking another look at some recent releases in the world of vocal jazz and traditional pop, a follow-up from a similar episode back in June.

This hour, we’ll hear some new records from Tony Bennett, Karrin Allyson, and Dee Dee Bridgewater. We’ll also hear from a much anticipated sophomore release from singer Cécile McLorin Salvant, the winner of the 2010 Thelonious Monk International Jazz Vocalist Competition. Plus, we’ll hear the very last recording from singer Mark Murphy, who passed away in October.
