Meet Your New Boss: Charter Schools USA

    Charter Schools USA

Charter Schools USA is one of two out-of-state charter operators selected by the state to take over schools from the IPS.

Florida based Charters Schools USA is one of the oldest and largest for profit charter operators in the country, with schools in Florida, Louisiana, and Georgia. Charter Schools USA was founded in 1997, and manages 31 schools on 27 separate campuses.

According to the companies website, Charter Schools USA uses a proprietary curriculum based on research from Solution Tree, which they call “Guaranteed and Viable Curriculum”.

Most of the schools operated by Charter Schools USA in Florida are solid performers on Florida’s standardized test, the FCAT.  However, some of the schools failed to make Adequate Yearly Progress under the Federal No Child Left Behind largely on the basis of low math scores among latino students.

According to reports from the Fort Myers News-Press, Charter School USA has been heavily investing in virtual charter schools, or charter schools which operate online rather than out of a school building.

Charter Schools USA was selected to operate Emmerich Manual High School, Emma Donnan Middle School, and T.C. Howe Community.
