All five of the stories in this hour were collected during the StoryCorps visit to Bloomington this summer.

We begin the hour with a conversation between Curt Simic, longtime president of the Indiana University Foundation, and his son, Curt Junior. Curt Senior says he learned something in the second grade that has stood him in good stead in his working life.

We also hear from:

  • the president of a major Bloomington-based company about growing up poor and becoming successful.
  • a university professor for whom wearing a suit to class has special significance.
  • an Ellettsville resident who chose to stay at home and raise his kids at a time that wasn't the norm.
  • two colleagues who began their tenure at Indiana University amid crisis and controversary.
