Steve Ferguson was appointed to the Indiana University Board of Trustees in 1998 and was appointed president in 2005.

Mr. Ferguson is active in a number of Indiana University, community, state and national organizations and serves on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Chamber of Commerce, Indiana Health Industry Forum, Central Indiana Corporate Partnership, Inc., Indiana Technology Partnership, 21st Century Research Fund, Medical Technology Leadership Forum, Regenstrief Foundation, Midwest Proton Radiotherapy Institute, Center for Human Growth, and Bloomington Parks and Recreation Foundation.

He also serves on the Board of Trustees for the National Endowment for the Humanities. He served on the Indiana Education Roundtable, is a former member and past Chairman of the State of Indiana Commission for Higher Education, was appointed by Governor O'Bannon in 1998 to the Board of Trustees, Indiana University and re-appointed by Governor Joe Kernan in 2004.
