Noon Edition

Professor Emeritus George Gaber

Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the IU School of Music, George Gaber is the guru of percussion – a pioneer in percussion music and innovator in percussion education. There's hardly an orchestra in this country that doesn't have a Gaber student in its percussion section. He has taught and lectured all over the world and premiered works by Milhaud, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Bartók, Gian Carlo Menotti, and Lukas Foss, among others; he and the IU Percussion Ensemble have premiered more percussion works than any other similar group in the world. He lives in Bloomington, and in his spare time joins community ensembles for a bit of first-class drumming. For this hour, he joins host Bob Willard for a first-class conversation about his percussive past and present.
